We are getting everything in order and ready to leave Friday morning! We spent an hour and a half picking up "last-minute" things at Walmart tonight, and have everything laid out ready to pack.
The other day, Bob was asking me about my expectations and how I felt about going on the trip.
Flying is not my favorite thing in the world to do. Flying in a huge jetliner is ok, but the smaller the plane, the more nervous I get. I hate turbulance! And then, of course, my wonderful family explains to me that there are no bathrooms on the plane, and that you can sit in the very back of the plane and still see the pilot! Oh my ...
And the other thought that has crossed my mind is the fact that we will be flying on the Fourth of July, after the US killed bin Laden. OK, probably nobody is going is hijack a small plane bound for Haiti, but who knows?
I really have no idea how God is going to use me in Haiti, other than to work with the children there. I am wondering what skills He will give me to relate to little ones who speak another language.
I expressed my concerns to one of my best friends at work, and this was her reply:
"I'm not the worlds' best plane traveler, however, I put that in God's hands just like I put my daily trip to Piqua in His hands. He promised to protect us, even in the air! So while I'm praying for your safe travel, I'll pray for calm nerves too!!! And what do you mean you don't know what gifts God will use from you in Haiti. Are you kidding me? Let me number the ways: your listening ears, compassionate heart, abilty to bring calmness to a possible volatile situation, and we all know that children are drawn to you. So all you have to do is show up, and let God do what he wants with and through you and your family."
I loved that last line - all I have to do is show up and allow Him to do His own thing!
I know it's going to be quite an experience, and I know we'll have a good time being the hands and feet of Jesus - I'm ready to show up! :-)
